4-H Club News: May 2018

Lord Baltimore Helping Hands – Ruby DiSabatino, Reporter
At our April meeting, we discussed the county demonstrations and that Ruby got a blue ribbon for her demonstration on how to make fluffy slime. Ruby will be going to the state fair for this.  We also talked about photography judging.  Ruby got 2nd place in the junior level.  Miss Kathy also told us about the makeup demonstrations in May and said she or Ruby would help anyone who wanted to do them.

We discussed the State Fair sign ups and coupon books as well as volunteering at the State Fair. The Spring Fair was also discussed.

Miss Kathy provided orange and strawberry infused water. Ruby put out lemon juice to add to it if we wanted.  We then played rock, paper, scissors with our bodies.

For the Spring Fair and the State Fair we made posters for foods and nutrition. We cut out pictures of foods and put them on our plates to show how to eat healthy, according to the Color My Plate guidelines. Our next meeting is May 11.

Seaford Blue Jays- Ivy Anne Genshaw, Reporter
The Seaford BlueJays met on April 10 at the Seaford Library.  Our club discussed the community service Backpack Program that was to meet in Milford.  The event was cancelled due to lack of participation so we volunteered at the Seaford Middle School Heart Healthy event.  Our club made a tri-fold board and set up a table display for signups for the backpack program.  We had a terrific time.  EKG’s were available to students and even the Paws for People were there with their dogs.  Our club also got the opportunity to tour the Little Caesars restaurant in Georgetown.  We learned how a pizza was made and then each of us was able to make our own and take it home with us. It was really interesting and informative.

Our leader, Ms Jacalyn, congratulated all those who had participated in the demonstrations and Judging contests.  She passed out coupon books for the State Fair to sell as a 4-H fundraiser. We also touched on State Fair entries.  Some of our club members are going to attend a fund raiser that is going to be held in Georgetown where ceramics can be made and later submitted as fair entries. Our club discussed our June end of the year party.  We decided to have it in July instead. The Spring Fair, archery, and tractor events were discussed.  My brother, Seth, and I hosted the meeting and we each demonstrated 2 different napkin folds.  I showed the club how to fold napkins into the shapes of a boat and Christmas tree and my brother demonstrated a rose and envelope fold.  We then offered refreshments.  Our next meeting will be held on May 8.

Bridgeville Mustangs – Alexia Carroll, Reporter
Our meeting started with some of our brave members who did demonstrations.  Hallie, Jessie, Austin, Abby, and Alexia did a wonderful job as I am sure they did at the contest.   We learned about pet safety and sang the “Fishy Song”.  Next, we gave reports on the fun activities that have passed.  The horse group went on a trip to Changing Fates Equine rescue and saw more than just horses.  Congratulations were given to the participants of the judging contests.  We went over the new business and upcoming events.  The Mustang members were reminded that they still have time to do a demonstation at the make-up date. Our Bridgeville Kiwanis BBQ Fundraiser is scheduled for June 10, get up with a Mustang to get your ticket. Peanut butter was brought by our members for the food pantry.  We then ended our meeting with refreshments.
