Seaford Blue Jays 4-H club met at the Seaford Library in the months of February and March. In our February meeting we started by discussing old business. Then we discussed public speaking. Three people in our club participated. Next our President, Hannah Henderson, talked about how much fun she has had at Jr. Leader Weekend and encouraged those who could attend this year to do so. Jake, Janet, and Olivia Shultie hosted the February meeting. They showed us how to make a Peanut Movie Valentines Day no sew pillow that can be entered in the State Fair. Our club finished the meeting by having a tasty Valentine snack. During our March meeting we started by answering the roll call with what we were planning to do over spring break. Then we discussed old business and went around the table and said what we had made for Favorite Foods. Everyone received a blue ribbon that participated and some won first place and honorable mention. Two people in our club made the top ten scores for the Jr. Food Judging division. We also discussed the Spaghetti Dinner Fund Raiser and how we thought it had been a success. Next we talked about the spring fair and who was planning to attend. Our club Foods Group has decided to take a tour of Liitle Ceasers in Georgetown on Good Friday. We also want to participate in the service project in Milford that is stuffing back-packs. Jill Koski hosted our March meeting. She supplied a fun way to learn about the my-plate by playing tag and a “food guess who” game. Lastly she supplied a healthy tasty snack.

At our March meeting, we heard about all the exciting events coming up in 4-H – Legislative Day, the various camps, the Links Spring Fair and contests. Ruby and Cassidy shared that they were already signed up for Environmental Camp.
Ruby gave a talk about her science fair project which involved baking a chocolate cake 3 ways. She asked the club members to taste 3 versions of the cake – a basic chocolate cake, a chocolate cake with applesauce instead of oil, and a chocolate cake with no baking soda. Then we had to decide which version of the cake (A,B,C) matched it’s description. Ruby then explained why the cakes tasted the way they did due to the changes and substitution. She also told how this idea came from a Science Saturday kitchen science project she had attended last year.
One of our Cloverbuds, Leah, brought a healthy snack – fresh fruit and a yummy dip. She made the dip – vanilla pudding, yogurt, and Kool whip. It was awesome!! While we snacked on this, Ms. Kathy shared a few activities from the Photography judging kits, to help the new members understand what was expected at the judging contest, as well as to help us prepare for it. We looked at the photos and gave reasons for placing them. It was lots of fun!
