Club News: February 2018

Country Clovers – Edwin Noon, Reporter
This year for Christmas Country Clovers adopted a local family. Our older youth went shopping and purchased the gifts. Then at the December meeting we wrapped gifts for the kids in the family. It was nice knowing a family will wake up happy this Christmas.

On December 2, 2017, the 4-H Hippology Contest took place. Competing for the Country Clovers were “The Shooting Stars” (Cate Reilly, Chloe Megee), “The Three Clovers” (Emily Davis, Sophie Noon, Edwin Noon), “Spirit of the Stallion” (Ava Reilly, Hailey Smith, Daniel Eisemann), and “The Cowgirls” (Tori Noon and a 4-H member of Clover Knights, Scarlett Wyrick).

Awards at the end of the contest were hard to be given because of the amount of ties in points. But in the Beginner Division, Sophie and Edwin Noon tied for third place in individual points, and in the Intermediate Division, Danielle Eisemann and Ava Reilly came in first and second place in the individual points, and in the Senior Division, Tori Noon got second place in the individual points.

Then in the team points for the Beginner Division, “The Shooting Stars” took first while “The Three Clovers” took second, then in the Intermediate Division,” Spirit of the Stallion” took first, and in the Senior Division, “The Cowgirls” got second. Even though this competition was hard, thanks to Miss Ann, and all the parents, we were able to get through it and win in our own way.

Stateline 4H club had their third meeting on December 10th. We went Christmas caroling at the manor house. As we sang we handed out candy canes decorated to look like reindeer. Everyone enjoyed it. After, the club ate pizza and had our meeting. We discussed old and new business. Our next meeting will be the 2nd Wednesday of January.

Our first meeting of 2018 began with singing and dancing, as usual! We then moved on to our business meeting, where we talked about our upcoming events. When the business meeting concluded, some of our members read us their speeches for the Public Speaking Contest. They were all absolutely wonderful! I can’t wait to hear even more at the Public Speaking Contest on January 27. After we heard the speeches, we split into groups to practice for the judging at the Favorite Foods Contest! At each table, we learned about kitchen utensils and their uses, and cooking vocabulary. I really enjoyed this meeting since it taught us more about the Favorite Foods Contest and the Public Speaking contest.

Seaford Blue Jays – Ivy Genshaw, Reporter
The Seaford Blue Jays met at the Manor House in Seaford for our December meeting.  We sang Christmas Carols to the residents. We exchanged secret Santa gifts and shared snacks brought in by each family. Our club did a Krispy Kreme fund raiser and all sales for coupons and BOGO cards were turned in.  They were distributed before Christmas so they could be used as gifts.  At our January meeting we met at the Seaford Library.  We discussed old and new business.  Then we discussed what our theme would be for our spaghetti dinner auction basket.  Our club chose a chocolate basket theme.  Next, we talked about favorite foods.  Our club’s food group is going to meet to discuss and practice for this upcoming event.  We also are going to make two cakes for the  spaghetti dinner fundraiser.  Alyssa Thawley held this meeting and we made an act of kindness board.  Each member posted on 4-H clover cutouts a way they could help others.  Alyssa is going to place the board at the spaghetti dinner so others can participate.  Our meeting concluded with fellowship and a healthy snack.

Rossakatum – Evan Short, Reporter
During the month of December, the Rossakatum 4-H club was busy having fun and creating some Christmas spirit. On the night of our meeting, Thursday, December 14, 2017 the club brought Christmas cheer to the Delmar nursing home by wearing funny Christmas hats and singing Christmas carols throughout the hallways. The residents really enjoyed themselves while singing along with us. After leaving the nursing home the club had it’s December meeting while eating pizza at Milano’s restaurant. We gave out Spaghetti dinner/auction tickets and information.

The Rossakatum 4-H club participated in the Delmar Christmas parade on December 16, 2017. The theme of our float was “Rocking Around The Christmas Tree”. The club members really worked hard on the float. We were presented with the “Judges Award” plaque. When the club members finished with the parade, they went shopping for their “Angels”. Each family and the club picked angels off the Delmar nursing home’s Christmas tree. The gifts were wrapped and taken back to the nursing home for the residents to open on Christmas day.
