Graphic Arts, Photography and Computer Arts Contests: Entries due January 29, 2018

The Graphic Arts, Photography, and Computer Arts Contest are sponsored by the Junior Council.  Class winners will receive $5.00.  Awards will be presented at the Favorite Foods Contest on February 17. All entries will be displayed at this event.  Exhibits are to be brought to the Sussex 4-H Office by Monday, January 29 at 4:00 pm.

GRAPHIC ARTS CONTEST

The Graphic Arts Contest was created to provide a means for the artistic 4-H’er to display his/her work.  There are three classes in this contest. Only one exhibit can be entered in each class.

Any exhibit included in a frame should include wire or hooks for hanging.  Hangers are not necessary for exhibits on poster board or mat board.  Exhibitor name, age and club should be on the back of each exhibit.

Classes:

  1. Open Art– One painting or drawing, max size with mat or frame not to exceed 11” x 17” mounted on poster board, mat board or in a frame (The art piece may be pencil drawings, pastels, oil paints or whatever the artist likes to use. Make the subject one of your choosing.)
  2. Backyard Habitat Plan– on 14” X 22” poster board
  3. One Landscape Plan- on 14” X 22” poster board

PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST RULES:

Mount individual photos on poster board, card stock, mount board or mat board; not to exceed 6”x8”.  Do not use foam board or construction paper.

Each photo must include the following on the back of every exhibit:  camera type, brand, and model.

Exhibitor name, age and club should be on the back of the exhibit as well.

Photographs may be taken using a digital or film camera (color or black and white).

Only one entry per class is permitted.   All photographs must have been taken by the 4-H member in the current 4-H year (2017-2018).

Classes:

  1. People Pictures
  2. Creature Pictures: Any animal, insect, amphibian, fish or other living thing
  3. Landscape: A portion of land or territory which the eye can comprehend in a single view, including all the objects it contains
  4. Action Pictures
  5. Sunrises/sunsets
  6. Still Life: Still life involves your arranging non-moving or still objects in an interesting way and then photographing them.  Use a common theme in still life photos such as fruit, vegetables, flowers, toys or musical instrument.
  7. Delaware Scene with Title
  8. Special Effects Pictures: A picture with some sort of a special effect such as Hat Trick, Hand Stand, Magic or Bad Hair Day.  See page 50 of Unit 1 of the 4-H Project Manual, “Focus on Photography” for tips and suggestions
  9. Marinescapes: A view of the sea
  10. Patriotism: One photograph illustration of what patriotism means to you.  It could be a picture of the flag, a parade, or anything else.   Be creative!

COMPUTER ARTS CONTEST RULES

On back of entry, describe the program application used, exhibitor name, age and club.  Only 1 entry per class.

Classes:

  1. Computer generated greeting card mounted on 81/2” x 11” poster board with description of steps taken to create
  2. Flyer (8 ½” x 11”) promoting 4-H mounted on 11” x 14” poster board
  3. Tri-fold brochure promoting 4-H, using Publisher:  paper copy mounted on 11” x 14” poster
