Lord Baltimore Helping Hands – Ruby DiSabatino, Secretary
We recently had our very first meeting of the year on Sept 10th. We welcomed 6 new club members which includes 3 Cloverbuds (Cameron, Savanah, and Leah) and three 4-H’ers (Kara, Molly, and Donovan). First, Ruby led the pledges, then Ms. Kathy talked about what 4H is, how it got started, and upcoming events. Then Ruby talked about the State Fair. She showed some of what she entered, riding the Sussex 4-H float and how many blue ribbons she won.
This year our club is participating in the “4th H for Health challenge”, so we played Guess the Number outside; we didn’t serve a snack, but we served water with orange and mint in it.
After that, we made a duct tape pencil case out of a zip lock baggie and duct tape. This is our first item for the Fair! We also came up with some ideas for the window display.
While Ms. Kathy spoke to the new members’ parents about registration and 4-H in general, Ruby took the club members outside where they played “Ghosts in the Graveyard” and ran around.
Our club officers this year are: Pres.-Miranda, VP- Bryan, and the Sec. is Ruby.

We welcomed 2 new members to our club in September, Mackenzie and Ryleigh, and the focus of our first meeting was Nutrient Management. Farmers have nutrient management plans in order to protect our water supply. After learning about why Nutrient Management is important, when it is required, how plans are made and put into place we did an activity which showed just how much thought goes into a good plan.
Our October meeting will be all about reading bull books and genetics. This year we will also be learning about feed mechanics, mastitis, immunizations and vaccines, biosecurity, dairy judging, pregnancy, heat stress, and dairy showmanship. If you have an interest in Dairy Science, plan to join us at our next meeting!

Welcome back to 4-H, members! We began our first meeting with singing and dancing. After that, we were introduced to all of our wonderful officers and new members before talking about business and upcoming events. When our business meeting concluded, we started our ice breakers. First, we told each other our personal interests and learned who shared them. For the next ice breaker, we divided into groups. The first group to bring the game leader what they asked for won the round! I loved both games and thought they were so creative and fun. Overall, it was a wonderful way to begin our new 4-H year!

During the meeting on September 14 ,2017 Angela Lagano showed us how to tie-dye paper as an example of a demonstration which is what we were learning about at that time. This quick and easy craft looked so fun that everyone got to make one sheet. Even though this craft ended up with little of it left (due to the amount of tie-dyed paper made) we still had fun in the end.
