Club News: May 2017

Clover Knights – Ashlyn Elliott, Reporter
I hope everyone’s spring is off to a great start!  The Clover Knights held their regular monthly meeting on April 11.  Several members shared with us about their happenings since we had our last meeting.  One of the exciting things shared was from Wyatt Warner.  He is on the Robotics Team at Georgetown Elementary and his team won the state competition for Delaware elementary schools.  They are headed to the VEX IQ Worlds competition later this month in Louisville, Kentucky.  Best of luck to Wyatt and his team!!

We also had a few members share about the 4H events they had attended since our last meeting.  Abby Frost talked about how much fun she had and the things she made at Winter Fun Day.  VP Emma Sparpaglione shared about her demonstration of the robot she built that could solve a rubiks cube.  President Rebecca Lenhart and member Madison Rice talked about the Jr. Leadership Conference they attended.  Also a big congrats to the Clover Knight members that took part in this year’s Horse Bowl.

Next, we discussed some of the upcoming events such as Younger Member Weekend, Spring Fair, Judging Contests, County Archery Shoot, Sewing Workshops, Legislative Day, National Service Day and the 4-H camps.  Ms. Noel reminded everyone of the dates and registration deadlines for those events.  In celebration of National Service Day on April 29, our club chose the Adopt-a-Highway roadside clean-up.  Only members 12 years of age or older are allowed to participate in the actual clean-up.  We also voted on a date to do the float at the State Fair.  The date chosen was Saturday, July 22.  We wrapped up the meeting with a club activity about planting seeds, which included learning about zones, perennials, and annuals.  And then we each got a container and planted some seeds.  Our next meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 9 at 6pm.  Hope everyone had a Happy Easter!

Bridgeville Mustangs – Mallary Cummings, Reporter
On April 20,2017 the Bridgeville Mustangs  had their monthly meeting. The meeting was called to order by co-president Jenna Anger. The secretaries and treasurer’s report were read and approved.  Old business was discussed and members were able to report on different events.  Next was new business and Jenna explained about the upcoming events.  Every family received chicken BBQ tickets to sell for our fundraiser. The BBQ is going to be on June 11.  Everyone is encouraged to sell their tickets.  The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.

Lucky Leaf – Claire Moreno, Reporter
The Lucky Leaf meeting was held on April 6 with eleven members in attendance.  Wyatt participated in Winter Fun Day.  Project demonstrations will be done at June, July and August meetings.  Kaleb Scott, from the Sussex 4-H Office, gave a presentation on how to compile a project record book.

Harbor Lights – Elise Goehringer, Reporter
On April 10, the Harbor Lights 4-H Club met to yet again take part in a very productive meeting. The President led us through pledges, roll call, reports and status of the budget. Those members who participated in the archery shoot, demonstrations, Winter Fun Day and Junior Leader Weekend gave an account of the event. We then moved on to new business which included Legislative Day, Adopt-a-Highway, the gardening workshop, the Clothing and Textile showcase, the Fair and summer day camp. We discussed an end of the year party to reward all the members of our club for a very successful year of hard work and fun! After details were arranged for the next month our meeting was adjourned and our club sat down to listen to a speech and a demonstration by Marissa Timmons, Zoe Cunningham and Kate Cunningham.  We spent the rest of the evening rehearsing our spring children’s play which we are very happy to be presenting on May 20 at Links Spring Fair.

As we begin to round up this year let me take this time to say that we are so proud of all our members who have put so much time and energy into making this 4-H year one to be remembered!
