Agent Letter: April 2017

Dear 4-H Family,

Happy Spring!  Although the weather has had different plans, flowers and trees have started to bloom and it has been good to see some sunshine.  A few special and unique celebrations during this month include:  April Fool’s Day, Children’s Book Day, World Health Day, National Jelly Bean Day, National Volunteer Week, Easter, and Administrative Professional’s Day.

Many Sussex 4-H members took part in March Madness, 4-H style.  We are so proud of our Horse Bowl participants from the East Coast Riding Club and Bridgeville Mustangs who did an excellent job at the event!  Many members participated in the Woodworking and Photography Judging Contests.  The results are posted in this newsletter.  The county Demonstration Contest went well and members talked about a variety of projects and topics. Twenty four teens participated in our annual Jr. Leader Weekend.  The teens learned team building and leadership skills and enjoyed a fun weekend at Cape Henlopen State Park.

We are excited to announce that Delaware 4-H Alumni, Aubrey Plaza, has recently received the 4-H Legacy Award.  This award celebrates the tremendous achievements of the 4-H community.  Aubrey grew up in Wilmington and was involved in New Castle County 4-H.  She also attended State Camp and credits 4-H for many life skills that have helped her in her career.  Aubrey has even recited the 4-H Pledge on the Stephen Colbert show!  We are proud of Aubrey and her accomplishments and especially happy that she is promoting our 4-H program!  You can find an interview with Aubrey from the Legacy Awards on YouTube.

Thank you to the clubs who submitted a club report this month, please keep them coming!  Be sure to submit your club news to Tammy or myself by the 25th of each month.  Include a fun activity, projects completed, and photos of your club in actions.  We love to see and share what each club is doing!

April will be busy with many events including:  Archery Shoot, Legislative Day and Younger Member Weekend.  Looking forward to seeing you at the next 4-H event!

Yours in 4-H,
Jill Jackson
