Fashion Intent Form 2017 due March 20
The 2017 Showcase will take place on Saturday, April 8 at the Carvel Center in Georgetown. This event allows 4-H members to show their consumer skills or sewing construction skills as they participate in this competition. 4-H members can compete in the Ready to Wear Contest OR the Clothing Construction Showcase, but they may not participate in both events. The areas of competition are:
- Ready-to-Wear – This is an opportunity for a member to bring an outfit of ready to wear clothes, model it before a judge for fit and appropriate accessories as well as participate in an interview with the judge to justify why this garment was needed in their wardrobe and why they selected it. All participants will be required to model in the revue portion of the event and submit a completed Notebook with the required 2017 Information on County Ready to Wear Fashion Planning form.
- Clothing Construction – A 4-H member will model a garment and or complete outfit that they have sewn. 4-Hers will participate in an interview with a judge sharing information about the construction of the garment, where they will wear it and explain why certain construction techniques were used, etc. Construction, fit and overall attractiveness of the garment will be considered in evaluation. All participants will be required to model in the revue portion of the event. Garments will be entered in the sewing level (beginner, intermediate, advanced intermediate and advanced) based on the construction techniques used in making the garment as described in the new 4-H Clothing Project Guidelines. Within each sewing level, garments will be evaluated with their age group (age 8-10, 11-13 and 14 & older). These guidelines are available on the Sussex Connection Blog, in the 4-H Office, or from your 4-H Leader. All participants will need to complete the required 2017 Information on County Clothing and Textile Showcase form and submit these with their completed garment.
Participants for the Ready-to-Wear and Clothing Construction areas will need to complete the Fashion Intent Form 2017 and return it to the 4-H Office by Monday, March 20 to indicate their interest in participating in these contests. Participants in the Clothing Construction category will also need to bring their completed garment and the Garment Forms to the 4-H Office by Monday, April 3. Participants in the Ready-to-Wear Contest will also need to bring their completed Notebook to the 4-H Office by Monday, April 3.
- Sewing Items Display – 4-H members can sew items based on the list provided on the Intent Form. All items will be evaluated on construction techniques and displayed at the revue event portion of the Showcase. 4-H members are limited to one item per category. Items sewn will need to be brought to the 4-H Office with a label by Monday, April 3.
Please display an item label with your submission.
4-H members are encouraged to attend this event to see their exhibits on display!
