Sussex 4-H Club News – March 2017

Hollymount – Gia Joella, Reporter
At the beginning of the meeting, Claire and Meghan lead the pledges and we heard about upcoming events. Everybody was excited for the upcoming Favorite Foods Contest and Spaghetti Dinner! The people who attended the Public Speaking Contest each shared their topic. When we were finished talking about business in this meeting, we learned about the Demonstration Contest while the Cloverbuds did team-building activities. Mrs. Anderson taught us many important things about the Demonstration Contest— such as topic examples, time limits, judging, partners, questions at the end of your demonstration, and, most importantly, demonstrations! The Cloverbuds joined us for an activity after that. We partnered up and were given topics. After discussing our topics with our partners for a few minutes, it was time to demonstrate in front of the whole group. It was very fun to see what everybody came up with. I loved listening to everyone’s demonstrations! It was an exciting meeting!

Harbor Lights – Elise Goehringer, Reporter
The Harbor Lights 4-H club met once again on February 13th to share in another great meeting! Each member who was planning on participating in favorite foods brought their dish as a practice run and shared them with the club. After enjoying many delicious dishes we sat down to discuss our meeting agenda.

Our lovely President led us in talking about upcoming events such as demonstrations, archery, the spaghetti dinner, photography and wood science events, Fashion Showcase, and the Junior Leader Weekend.

We are so proud of our six members who took part in the Favorite Foods contest and congratulate them on their blue ribbons.

After the meeting was adjourned the club sat down to enjoy a wonderful demonstration put on by Elise Goehringer and Mabelline Ellis the rabbit. Elise demonstrated how to properly show a rabbit in her demonstration titled “Rabbit Showmanship”. The club then challenged Elise with various questions about her demonstrations and offered advice to improve it. We are honored to have such supporting and wonderful members in our club.

With the demonstration complete our club moved on to discussed its spring production. As being a drama based club we enjoy taking on dramatic projects to preform to our friends, family and this spring, our community. Our writing committee explained characters and assigned roles to each member. We look forward to preforming our play at various libraries and children’s events.

We will meeting again on March 7th at 5:00pm to enjoy another night of making the best better!

Jr. Council – Madison Rice, Reporter
The first Junior Council meeting of 2017 started with the pledges and the readings of December’s secretary report, the treasury report, and an announcement notifying all members that Kaleb Scott will be taking over as Sussex 4-H Program Assistant. President Colleen Anderson then began with the old business and members discussed events such as Public Speaking, State Teen Conference, State Leaders Form, and updates on the exchange trip. After, Colleen reminded members of the upcoming Favorite Foods competition, Spaghetti Dinner, Horse Bowl, and of course Jr. Leader Weekend. The meeting was concluded with Kaleb reading a thank you sent by the great staff of Evans Farms.
