4-H Favorite Foods Contest: February 18, 2017

Location:  Sussex Technical High School Cafeteria, Georgetown
Announcement of Winners:  1:00 p.m. (time approximate)

The Favorite Foods Contest is open to all 4-H members currently taking a Foods, Food Preservation, or Exploring 4-H project.

Participants select a category to enter:

  • Breads
  • Meat or Main Dish
  • Fruits or Vegetables
  • Dessert
  • Appetizers, Hors d’oeuvres, or Soups
  • Recipe Redo (Juniors and Seniors Only)
  • Cookies, Cupcakes, or Brownies (Cloverbuds and Beginners Only

Contestants (8-19 years old) will also plan a menu to complement their selected dish.

Entry Forms for this contest are due to the 4-H Office by Monday, January 30, 2017.

FAVORITE FOODS Guidelines are where you can find rules, recipe and menu tips, and more!

On Saturday, February 18, participants will bring their prepared food item, place setting, centerpiece, etc. to the contest.  Chairpersons will schedule a time for each 4-H participant to meet with a contest judge.  Judges will ask questions about the recipe, menu, and prepared dish and then sample a taste of the foods entry.

After meeting with a judge, participants may test their knowledge in the Foods and Nutrition Judging Contest, make a craft, or visit the Kids Korner.  There will also be opportunities for members to practice for upcoming 4-H judging contests.

4-H’ers may also chose to enter the Photography and Graphic Arts Contest (see contest rules in this newsletter) and have their entries displayed at this event.  This is always a fun-filled and educational event!
