Harbor Lights – Elise Goehringer, Reporter
The Harbor Lights 4-H Club met on October 17 to enjoy an awesome meeting together! Our lovely President, Destiny Carmona, led the club in discussing the Achievement Banquet, Adopt-a-Highway, Window Display, Pumpkin Contest, and so many other events our club was honored to participate in. We also covered upcoming events such as the Cape Henlopen State Park Children’s Fantasy Trail, the International Dinner and Talent Show and the Diamond Clover program.
Service projects play a big part in our club, so we discussed ways we could generously give back. Our club was also excited to welcome two new club members who will bring talent, personality and fresh ideas to our group. We are thrilled to share with them the many wonderful things 4-H has shared with us.
Our next meeting will be held on November 21 at the Old Paths Church of Christ. At 6:00 pm, we will participate in a project book workshop and we will give reports on the wonderful events that happened during the month. Come join us in making the best better!
Clover Knights – Ashlyn Elliott, Reporter
The Clover Knights met on October 11 at 6pm at our regular meeting location. We discussed upcoming events, such as the Science Saturdays and the Younger Members Overnight Retreat. Members also voted on what style shirt they liked for our club shirt. The majority voted to continue with the same style shirt as before. Shirts will be ordered soon. Mr. Bo talked about being active in 4-H and the importance of attending club meetings regularly. He also talked about attending other 4-H events as well, on both county and state level, and reminded everyone that 4-H isn’t just about entering the State Fair. Ms. Noelle gave out pins/certificates/awards to those that weren’t able to attend the Achievement Banquet. Congrats to all Clover Knight members who earned awards this past year. We ended the meeting with a presentation by Mr. Lenhart and Mr. Bo on hiking. They shared with our club all about what you need when going hiking, and even shared stories of their hiking adventures. Due to weather to heavy rains, our hike was rescheduled for October 18. So on October 18, the club met again at the hiking trail at the UD Extension Office and went on a small hike. It was lots of fun learning all about hiking!!! Our next meeting will take place Tuesday, November 8 at 6pm.
Bridgeville Mustangs – Erin Carey, Co-Reporter (September Report)
The Bridgeville Mustangs’ 2016-2017 year kicked off at our meeting on September 22. We welcomed back many returning members and meet many new families. At the meeting, members reflected on the many events that the Mustangs had participated in during the past month, including Bridgeville Community Night, Coastal Clean-Up at Broadkill Beach, Tractor Supply PAWS event, and the WE R WOODBRIDGE day. The members nominated for officers and leadership positions gave campaign speeches and we held elections. Congrats to our new officers: Co-Presidents : Meredith and Jenna, Co-Secretaries: Brittany and CJ, Co-Reporters: Erin and Mallary, and Treasurer: Tanner LeCates. Something new we did this year was a Project Group Open House. Before the meeting and during elections, the project group leaders and Jr. leader helpers set up informational booths about their project group. Members and their parents were able to find out about our archery, small bore, arts and crafts, horse, poultry, outdoor adventures, and food science project groups. Thanks to Mr. Eddie Sparpaglionie, who also joined us with information about the county Robotics club. The Mustangs are off to a great start and we are looking forward to fabulous fall!
Bridgeville Mustangs – Mallary Cummings, Co-Reporter (October Report)
At the October 20, 2016 Bridgeville Mustangs 4-H meeting, we talked about events in the coming months and events that have occurred already. After welcoming all the new 1st year members to our club, Halloween safety reports were given by Cole and Austin. A lot of Mustangs decorated pumpkins and helped with the club games at the Pumpkin Contest. We also had many members stay for the overnighter. Everyone said that they had a great time and encouraged others to go next year or to YMW! After the meeting, Mrs. Clara Dewy gave a presentation about bees. She taught us about the different kinds of bees, the role of the Queen, what bees eat, how they make honey, what a hive lives in, the process of bottling honey, and the health benefits of pure honey. She brought in one of her hive boxes and showed us the different parts and even had suits that a couple of our members put on. Guess what she said her most important piece of protective gear is?? DUCT TAPE! She tapes around any openings in her suit so bees don’t sneak in. AHHHH! It was really interesting and now a few of our members want to take the bee project. Thanks Mrs. Clara!! After the demonstration we had a snack and many stayed to help set up the hall for an upcoming church event.
