2016 DE 4-H National Congress Delegate

congress-2016National 4-H Congress is one of the premiere experiences for 4-H members across the country to participate in.  For over 90 years, members of the 4-H program have been gathering to celebrate the successes and accomplishments of 4-H.  National 4-H Congress provides a life changing experience for youth to meet other members across the United States, as they participate in educational workshops focusing on diversity, cultural experiences, leadership, team development, and of course having fun!

Congratulations to Rebecca Arpie on being selected to represent Sussex County in the Delaware 4-H Congress delegation.  Here is a little more about her project work areas!

congress-achieve-2016Rebecca Arpie, is an 8 year member of the Cypress Heart and Hands 4-H Club, and member of the Sussex 4-H Junior Council. She is currently a junior at Sussex Technical High School. Rebecca’s main 4-H projects are Foods & Nutrition, Photography, Clothing & Textiles, Arts & Crafts, Leadership and Citizenship. Other projects that she has been involved in include Bicycle, Fishing, Woodworking. Robotics and Shooting Sports.  She has been actively involved in several 4-H activities including Junior Leader Weekend, State Teen Conference, Day Camp Counselor, State 4-H Camp and the Delaware State Fair.

When asked to write about her most memorable 4-H experience, Rebecca indicated that before 4-H, she never possessed skills to make friends or participate easily, so many times she just did not volunteer.  However, she credits 4-H for providing her opportunities to take on more responsibilities while helping her to develop communication skills to interact and connect with other 4-H youth, campers at day camps and even the elderly she came in contact with during her visits to the local retirement home for a community service project.   She feels 4-H definitely helped her to come out of her shell and participate in many activities while helping her to create many great experiences for other 4-H members.  Rebecca resides in Millsboro with her parents Paul and Angela Arpie.
