From Greenwood, Delaware to Greenwood, Wisconsin, Sussex County 4-Hers just returned from Clark County to finish up our 2015-2016 Exchange Trip. We got to see why Wisconsin is the cheese state. We toured a local dairy farm that has 850 cows and about 40 to 80 calves born each week. Two cute heifers were born the night of our tour and cookout. We traveled from one side of the state to the other visiting the Green Bay Packers stadium and then taking a dinner cruise on the Mississippi on a paddle boat. We got to see the locks of the upper Mississippi in action as we had to rise 9 feet to continue downstream. On the return trip, you enter the lock and the water level has to drop 9 feet for you to return to La Crosse.
Doc’s Harley Davidson shop was one of our stops along the way. The kids liked the food but I think most were excited to feed the giant tortoise and listen to the birds talk. The National Eagle Center was very educational and we got to meet Angel as she was fed her lunch. The 4-Hers participated in a ceremony to honor those Wisconsin Veterans who gave their lives for our freedom. They shook the hands of the veterans in attendance and then toured the parks memorials that are dedicated to remembering and helping veterans find peace and healing. Each person rang a replica of the Liberty Bell. For fun we attended a truck and tractor pull and drove around the town of Thorp posing with decorated fiberglass cows in teams of 4.
Everyone learned a lot, renewed friendships from last summer and we taught them a lot of songs because Wisconsin kids do not sing as much as we do. We can’t wait to see what adventure is next for the exchange trip. Maybe you will want to join us next time!
