Dear 4-H Family,
WOW! May was a busy month! Livestock Tagging, Legislative Day, Hopkins Farm Tour and the 63rd annual Sussex County Horse Show. All events and activities were a success due to all who helped plan, implement, and take part in these events. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!
Congratulations to our fourteen 4-H graduates: Shannon Bradley, Gary Brown, Aileen Goehringer, Donald Joseph, Nathan Moyer, Mikayla Ockels, Rachel Robb, Erryn Smith, Emily Stachow, Kylie Ucman, Nathaniel Vincent, Paige Vincent, Rachel Winston, Laurie Wroten and Joanne Yeary. I have watched many of you grow up from Cloverbuds to teens and am very proud of the kind, responsible, talented, outgoing young men and women you have become. Use the skills you have gained from your 4-H leaders and friends to help you in this next exciting phase of your life!
We would like to welcome back Sussex 4-H alumni, Kaleb Scott as our Summer Program Assistant. Kaleb will be helping to plan Day Camp, 4-H Afterschool camps, State Fair activities and much more! Please welcome Kaleb back to Sussex County as he enjoys his summer before heading back to the University of Delaware for his final semester of college!
As many of you may know, our longtime 4-H Staff Assistant, Rita Lofland has decided to retire after 20 years of service to Sussex County 4-H. We appreciate everything she has done for our organization and wish her much relaxation and free time during her retirement. Personallly, I have known Rita for 25 years. She was my 4-H Leader when I was young and helped mold my love of 4-H! There is no doubt we will still see her as a volunteer at 4-H events throughout the year. More about Rita’s time with 4-H can be found in this newsletter.
This newsletter covers June and July, two more busy months in the 4-H World! June 1 is the deadline to register online for the Delaware State Fair. 4-H members register their fair exhibits, demonstration, public speaking, talent and market animals. Leaders register club window displays if they received first, second, or third in the county contest, Consumer Bowl, and Avian Bowl teams. Please be sure to sign your club or families up to ride the float. Volunteers (youth and adults) are needed to help with fair set up and take down and also Host and Hostess duties in the 4-H department at the Centre. Look for more details in this newsletter and turn your helper forms into Tammy by June 10. Let’s make this another Fair to remember!
June and July are sure to bring warmer weather, longer daylight hours, fun family and outdoor activities, and lots of 4-H fun! Environmental Camp, State Camp, Exchange Trip, State Fair, and Day Camp are popular summer 4-H activities. During this busy time and throughout the year, please remember to check your email and the blog regularly for news and updates. Be sure to sign up for events (county and statewide) by the posted deadlines. Thanks for your help! See you at the next 4-H event!
Yours in 4-H,
