Club News: February 2016

East Coast Riding Club
4-H East Coast Riding Club logoOn Wednesday, December 9, eighteen 4-H’ers and 16 adults enjoyed a Breyer Horse Paint night.  After a hot dog dinner, Mrs. Lofland talked with the youth about breeds of horses and colors.  She explained how to use the paint kits and mix colors to decorate 3 different Breyer Stablemates.   Then 4-H’ers painted a horse of their dreams.  Many used the standard paint colors, but horses were also decorated in spots, purples, blues and rainbow colors.  Everyone had a great time and learned while they painted!  Thanks to Jenna Anger and Gary Brown, Jr. Council members, for helping and Jodie Gravenor and leaders for helping with the dinner.  Photos from this event can be found on the Delaware 4-H Flickr page

The Sussex County Dairy club met in January and had a guest speaker, William Bender, discuss proper hoof care and hoof trimming.  It was very interesting!  We then discussed leasing a dairy animal through Hopkins Dairy Farm.  There will be some changes to the agreement this year, but we are all very excited to begin working with the animals.  Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 6:30 at the Carvel Center.

Harbor Lights – Olivia Goehringer, Reporter
HarborLightsOn December 4th 2015 the Harbor Lights 4-h club met at Old Paths Church of Christ for our Christmas play. The play went very well and all of our actors and actresses loved doing it. It took the crowd back to what Christmas really means and what it should be. All of our thanks go to our wonderful director Mrs. Debbie Goehringer. It will be a play that we will never forget. Then after the play everyone came together to enjoy some delicious snacks and sweets.  Finally after that we had our meeting. It was a short meeting but a good meeting. We talked about Old Business which included the Fantasy Trail, the Pumpkin Contest, Achievement Awards, and Adopt a Highway. We also talked about New Business which included Public Speaking. Then our gift exchange started. We went free style this year and it was awesome! There were a lot of fun and exciting gifts.

Our January meeting was at the Ockels’ home and a few people from our club had written speeches so we all gathered and heard the speeches. Then we all enjoyed a game of tag but with nerf guns and played for a while. Well thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed it!
