During the week of July 8-12 seven Sussex teens welcomed seven teens and two adults from Wisconsin to Delaware. We met the group at the airport and then traveled back to Sussex County where we had a welcome picnic at the T.S. Smith & Sons Pavilion. After a delicious potluck dinner (which including showing the Wisconsin group how to pick crabs), the group enjoyed games of volleyball and corn hole. The night ended with a bonfire and wagon ride through the orchards. On Thursday, the group traveled to the DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum in Fenwick Island where they learned a lot about local shipwrecks and those around the world. The group then went to the beach and then to Nicola’s, Funland and the boardwalk. Friday was when the group traveled to Fort Delaware to learn about some of Delaware’s history. Then they traveled south to Dover where they were able to tour the Monster Mile. Thursday night concluded with a pool party at the Eskridge residence. On Saturday, the group traveled by Metro to Washington D.C. where they were able to tour Arlington National Cemetery and many museums. Sunday was “family day” where some toured chicken houses while others got pedicures. We all met at Vanderwende Farm Creamery for one last taste of Delaware before traveling back to the airport. The group had an excellent week and they are looking forward to visiting Wisconsin next summer.
