WHAT IS YOUNGER MEMBER WEEKEND?
We are glad you asked! With so many families new to 4-H this year, here are some details you might want to know!
Younger Member Weekend (YMW) is a tradition that began many years ago. It is open to younger members of 4-H between the ages of 8 to 12. It is an overnight camping experience that is held at the Cape Henlopen State Park camping facility. This weekend begins on a Saturday. At Junior Leader Weekend, (JLW), which is held earlier, older 4-H members receive training, reinforce their leadership skills and brush up on their counselor roles. These responsible young adults, along with certified chaperones, staff and a nurse, serve to make the YMW a terrific overnight experience. Younger Member Weekend introduces 4-H’ers to many of the traditions, songs and camaraderie that continues in JLW, State Camp and other state events. 4-H’ers who attend YMW learn leadership and responsibility skills from the fine example of the Junior Leaders who plan the theme and activities for their younger campers.
Younger Member Weekend fills up fast! The cost is $35 which includes group activities, dinner, dessert and breakfast the next morning! Registration and a health form is required if you have not yet turned one in. Those 4-H’ers who were active in last year’s Sussex County 4-H fundraiser selling Horse Show ads use their coupons they earned, making YMW a real bargain!
Please complete Younger Member Weekend 2015 Registration Form and return to the 4-H Office by April 6.
