Delaware Equine Council Scholarship- $1000
Eligibillity:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and a Delaware resident or Delaware Equine Council member. ($10.00 to become an individual member)
- Must be enrolled and in good standing in an agriculture, equine, veterinary or vet tech program in the United States.
- Must submit a typewritten 250-word essay :”How I plan to use this course of study to further the equine or agriculture industry.”
- Must complete a typed application and include a transcript of a minimum of one full semester’s grades from an accredited college or university.
All awards are given without discrimination as to race, sex, or creed.

About the Presenter: Nettie Liburt grew up on eastern Long Island, NY and has been a life-long horseperson. She spent 11 years as a 4-H member of the East End Equestrians, and consequently is a strong advocate of horsemanship, proper horse care and animal welfare. Nettie received her Master of Science degree in Animal Science from Rutgers University in 2005, and earned her PhD in January, 2011 (Equine Exercise Physiology & Nutrition). Her research focused on the effects of age and exercise training on endocrine control of the cortisol response and insulin resistance. She worked as a Technical Equine Nutritionist for the Kent Nutrition Group/Blue Seal Feeds for 3 1/2 years, and is now an independent consultant on equine nutrition, exercise physiology and equine product development. http://www.myhorseuniversity.com/resources/webcasts/wintercare

Coaching a 4-H Avian Bowl Team: Thursday December 11, 4:00 pm EST
Avian Bowl is a double elimination contest for 4-H state teams patterned after other knowledge bowls. Contestants must have a comprehensive knowledge of subject matter for several species of poultry, food safety, physiology, nutrition, eggs, and other related subjects. Dr. Brigid McCrea will be discussing the mechanics of an avian bowl contest – and some techniques for training an avian bowl team

Delaware Ag Week
Delaware Ag Week programs, along with an agricultural trade show and exhibits by the First State Antique Tractor Club, are being held January 12-16, 2015 at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington, Delaware.
