Jr. Leader Weekend 2014

JUNIOR LEADERS BUILD A LEGACY OF 4-H LEADERSHIP
IMG_5729Twenty three excited Sussex Junior Leaders spent March 14-16 at the Children’s Beach House in Lewes for Junior Leader Weekend.  On Friday evening – “Laying the Foundation,” the group kicked off the event by playing a life-sized Jenga game.  Each person took turns removing a piece and answering the question on the block.  The teens also planned Younger Member Weekend, Mrs. Jackson announced counselors for Younger Member Weekend, and the teens had a time of fellowship with a bonfire and beach volleyball game, followed by a movie.

IMG_5752Saturday’s theme was “Building the Framework.  The morning activities included a “laser” obstacle course rejuvenation activity and community service activities.  As a whole, the group cut out and painted “baby chicks” out of egg cartons for spring theme tray decorations for Meals on Wheels.  Then, another group weeded and beautified the flower beds around the Beach House.  Each year, the teens do many community service projects in and around the Children’s Beach House as a thank you to them for letting our group stay at their facility!

IMG_5782The afternoon activities were led by Aaron Jackson and Sharon Anderson.  These two enthusiastic leaders used interactive and hands on activities to teach the group four Laws of Leadership, ironically including the “Law of Legacy.”  All 21 Laws of Leadership have been taught over the past four years.  The teens have thoroughly enjoyed learning and implementing these laws.  On Saturday evening, the group enjoyed dancing the night away with tunes from Jammin’ Joe Anderson!

IMG_5824“Completing the Legacy” was the theme for Sunday.  After breakfast and reflections, which included a fun and reflective balloon activity, three high school seniors in attendance, Angela Lagano, Kimberlyn Scott, and Jonah Vincent, were recognized and shared with the group what 4-H has meant to them.    The group clean-up of the Children’s Beach House concluded our stay and the teens and 4-H adults left the facility spotless and received much praise from the staff!

Junior Leader Weekend provides counselor training and preparation for Sussex County camps.  The 2014 Build a Legacy of 4-H Leadership Weekend brought out the talents, creativity, leadership, and caring ways of youth!  Be sure to look for upcoming Sussex County Camps!
