Bike Club Upcoming Rides – Everyone is welcome to attend!!

Sunday, April 13th.  4-H Pedal Pushers Bike Club will host a family bike ride on the Bike Loop Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park.  Meet in the parking lot nearest the ocean bath house.  The ride will begin at 1pm.  NOTE:  There is an entrance fee for the park.  A little about the trail:

This paved trail is suitable for hikers, bikers, strollers, and rollers. The bike loop trail links the Park Office, Nature Center, campground, beach bathhouse, outdoor fitness area, observation tower, and the Fort Miles Historic Area. The observation tower is a popular stop along the trail. Climb the circular staircase for a panoramic view of the Cape Region. The Bike Loop provides side trails which connect to the fishing pier and kayak rental, the campground, and an ocean and dune overlook, resting atop a former military bunker. The trail contour is easy to moderate in difficulty. The Bike Loop Trail allows for a full experience and appreciation of the park. The American Discovery Trail follows the northern segment of the Bike Loop Trail from the Beach to Cape Henlopen Drive.

Saturday,May 3rd.  The 4-H Pedal Pushers Bike Club will be providing a Bike Safety Rodeo in conjunction with the annual “Get In Gear Family Bike Rally” at Trap Pond State Park.  We will meet at 8am to set up the course in the parking lot near the Baldcypress Nature Center.  The skills course will be offered to families preparing to ride in the Rally trail ride and other visitors to the park.  NOTE:  There is an entrance fee for the park.

Wednesday, May 14th.
The 4-H Pedal Pushers Bike Club will be participating in the annual Ride of Silence sponsored locally by the Sussex Cyclists Bike Club.

A little about the memorial ride:

Across the nation, more than 600 cyclists are killed on the road every year. A small number compared to the estimated 300,000 premature deaths estimated to result from overweight and obesity-related illnesses. Bicycling is part of the solution to many of our nation’s problems such as obesity, traffic congestion, air pollution and the seemingly unending need to pave over land for parking lots and widen roads. As a silent but active gesture during National Bike Safety Month to memorialize those killed or injured while cycling on the road, Sussex Cyclists will organize its seventh annual Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 14 beginning at 7:00 p.m. The ride will start behind the Wawa off Dartmouth Road at the entrance to Rolling Meadows on the southbound side of Route One. More information will follow as we get closer to the date.

Delaware 4-H Apparel
The Sussex County 4-H Exchange Trip group is busy preparing to host teens and adults from Wisconsin this summer. They have decided to have many fundraisers to help them defer the cost of hosting this summer and then traveling in the summer of 2015.

One fundraiser will be to sell 4-H apparel, exclusive to Delaware 4-H. The teens designed a Delaware 4-H logo and will be selling t-shirts (long and short sleeve), hoodies, and sweatpants. Please share the Delaware 4-H Apparel Order Form with your club members and Delaware 4-H friends. Return the form to the Sussex 4-H Office so orders can be placed in a timely fashion.  Thanks for your help!
