Sussex County 4-H Junior Council– reported by Joe Anderson

Our March meeting was very busy. Old business we discussed included the State Teen Conference, Public Speaking contest, and the Favorite Foods Contest. New business included many upcoming events, but we spent a lot of time discussing the upcoming Jr Leader Weekend. The planning committee shared their plans with the rest of the group. The date for Younger Member Weekend was announced, and the jr. leaders were encouraged to spread the word to kids in their clubs. Our next meeting will be held April 1.

Pedal Pushers – reported by Erin Carey

In 40 degree weather, the bike club went from Newark to Pennsylvania.  It was hard: falling down, climbing steep hills, and crying.  But that didn’t stop us, because we are the PEDAL PUSHERS!!  We rode through Newark and into White Clay Creek State Park.  The paths were great!  We rode along White Clay Creek and saw what looked like a dam.  Jackie, Rachel and I got to climbed up on it to take a group picture.  We rode to the Nature Center and learned that mountain lions and coyotes had been spotted in the area.  We saw a stuffed coyote, beaver, and other animals in the Nature Center.  The park lady told us that we had rode by the path to the Pennsylvania/Delaware monument so we went back.  We found the path in the woods.  It was steep and we couldn’t ride our bikes.  We pushed them for what seemed like forever and finally came to the monument where Pennsylvania borders Delaware.  A few of us straddled the line and stood in both states.  We took another group picture at the monument.  We rode back to the park path on a paved road that was busy with cars.  We had to look forward the whole time to be safe.  Everyone had a great time.  We made it back safe and enjoyed hot chocolate.  It was a cool ride, I want to do it again!!  Join us April 7 in Pocomoke, Md. for an all-terrain ride!!

Clover Knights – reported by Autumn Lenhart

At our March meeting we talked about upcoming events and getting more involved in the community. Our Vice President Rebecca Lenhart said she has noticed a lot of trash along the roads and suggested we do a road side clean up when the weather gets warmer. The club agreed. In honor of the wearing of the green this month we showed our 4-H pride by making green and white ribbon bracelets as our club craft. Ms. Sylvia and Taylor served the club popcorn and apple juice and had a goodie bag for each of us to take home. Our next meeting will be on April 8 and we will have guest speaker. Don’t forget those fishing rods! Happy Easter!
