All the hard work, the sweat and tears, is all for this moment right here. Delaware has won their second CAA Championship, the other being in 2014.

“It’s hard to put things into words right now” said an ecstatic Wendy McFarlane-Smith.

All year the Blue Hens have shown their heart. That heart and determination was shown by Carly Pettipaw who fought through injury to finish the 400m in 7th place, good enough to get Delaware 2 points.

“They trusted the process, working hard day in and day out all season.” said coach McFarlane-Smith.

Delaware’s process led to huge success over the season. In total Delaware’s track team got 16 different medals. Three of them gold, six silvers and seven bronzes.

Senior Jeanette Bendolph ran a 2:08.69 in the 800m, good enough for 1st place and two seconds faster than her personal best. While Senior Alexis Lipnicky had a personal best javelin throw of 143’1” to win the javelin event.

Freshman Halima Scott looks to have a bright future ahead of her at Delaware. Finishing first in the 200m with a time of 23.99. Scott’s finish in the 200m clinched the title for Delaware. Halima also finished 2nd in the 400m with a time of 54.08.

“Kudos to all the ladies for a fantastic finish and to our coaching staff for a job well done!” said Wendy McFarlane-Smith.

Delaware advanced to the ECAC next week and the NCAA first round, a big accomplishment for a team that’s worked so hard to get to where they’re at.
