Three Blue Hens made it to the NCAA East Prelims that was over the weekend. Senior Ashley Bailey qualified for the Eastern prelim for the Pole Vault. Sophomore Myrissa McFolling-Young qualified for the East prelim for the discus throw event. While Junior Michaela Meyer qualified for the 800m event.

The players have shown passion all year going their hardest in the practice. Coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith stated, “I’m so proud of the hard work and dedication put forth by the team all spring long.”.

Michaela Meyer will kick off the events for the Blue Hens with the 800m event today at 8:10 tonight. If Meyer finishes in the top 24, she will advance to the East prelims finals on Friday at 6:30 pm.

Myrissa McFolling-Young will follow Meyer’s performance at noon on Friday. McFolling is the youngest Blue Hen to make it to the Eastern prelim round since 2010 when Vicky Caruso made it for the 400m event. The event will give her a basis of what to expect for the rest of her career while at University of Delaware.

Senior Ashley Bailey will finish the NCAA Eastern prelims for the Blue Hens on Friday May 24th. With graduation around the corner, this could be Bailey’s last time doing the pole vault event. Bailey is the 7th Blue Hen to make it to the NCAA prelims for two straight seasons. The pole vault event starts at 5 pm.

If any of the three Blue Hens finish in the top-12 they would qualify for the NCAA championship in Austin, Texas.
