UD MEN’S BASKETBALL FORWARD COLLIN GOSS LOOKING TO IMPROVE NEXT YEAR AS BOTH A PLAYER AND AS A TEAM OVERALL

By Ryan Honey

This past year for the UD Men’s Basketball squad, redshirt junior forward Collin Goss definitely had an impact for the team’s frontcourt.  Goss averaged 3.1 points per game and snagged 2.7 rebounds per game. The St. Stephens & St. Agnes High School alum also shot 51.9% from the field as well as 40% from three-point land.  Not to mention, Goss also shot nearly 70% from the free-throw line.

However, next year, Goss is looking to improve as a player and be yet again an integral aspect for this team.  When asked what he’ll be looking to improve on for the 2019-2020 season, Goss emphasized the concept of being more aggressive.

“The thing I’m looking to improve on most is probably just being more aggressive, both offensively and defensively,” Goss said.  “That’s both individually and as a team.”

Goss sees the Blue Hens’ finish down at the Colonial Athletic Association Conference Tournament as a step in the right direction.  Delaware ultimately lost in the semifinals to the top-seeded Hofstra Pride 78-74 in overtime. They put together a great showing in the game before that as well, topping fourth-seeded William & Mary 85-79 in the quarterfinals.

“We had a really good showing down at the conference tournament and we’re just looking to build off of that,” Goss mentioned.

Within the conversation, Goss did talk about things other than primarily just basketball.  Many non-student athletes forget that these players have to balance a ton of school work with their priorities on the court.  It doesn’t seem easy at all, and no, its definitely not easy when it comes down to it.

And although it’s the offseason for the Delaware Men’s Basketball team, there’s still a lot of work that’s put in each week, which Goss touched upon.

“Even though it’s the offseason, we’re still pretty busy,” Goss said.  “We’re lifting three or four times a week and then we’ll have a couple of team practices and individual workouts.  It’s a little easier on the course load, thankfully, because we have a lot more free time to study and get our work done so that’s good.”

The Blue Hens won’t have a regular season game until around October or November.  However, until then, there’s still much work to be put in, and it doesn’t seem like this program is taking a ton of time off in the process.
