Not one. Not two. Not three. Not Four. Not five. Six.

Not quite the amount of championships Lebron James promised, but five is more than he won.

With the NFL finished and the ensuing free agent frenzy following right after, five former Blue hens have earned their chance to make an NFL roster.

Nasir Adderly, the former do-it-all secondary standout, landed with the Los Angeles Chargers, when they selected him at 60thoverall. The remaining five Delaware alumni all signed as undrafted free agents to a variety of NFL squads.

Former quarterback turned wide receiver Joe walker signed with the Chicago Bears. Walker became a deep threat in his final season here at Delaware, as he averaged 19.8 yards per catch. He will have some sense of familiarity, as former Delaware quarterback Matt Nagy is the Bear’s head coach.

Vinny Papale will try to earn a spot on the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders were one of the league’s worst teams last season, much like the Philidelphia Eagles were when Papale’s father joined that team.

The young man who grew up here, Troy Reeder, will be travelling to the west coast for rookie minicamp after signing with the Los Angeles Rams. A finalist for the FCS’ top defensive player award, Reeder will look to bring his production with him as he tries to earn a spot on the Rams.

Tight end Charles Scarff will be staying in the area when he heads down to camp after inking a deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Scarff lead the Blue Hens this year with 43 catches, seven of which went for scores.

Teddy Adewusi has his a chance to make a roster that’s just a couple hours on I-95 away. The New York Giants are bringing him in to compete with a secondary that needs help after losing All-Pro safety Landon Collins.

The only player of the group that was drafted, Nasir Adderly will join a talented defense in LA. The versatile defensive back could have the chance to slide in and play alongside Derwin James and other skilled defensive backs.

The six players have a lot of work to do to make an NFL team, but they have a chance, which is a step in the right direction.
