The end of their college careers is quickly approaching for Seniors. Soon they will be in their cap and gown in front of family and friends. The thought of graduation couldn’t distract the Seniors from performing in their last home meet though.

Senior Maame Kyeadea-Amponsah won the 400m race with a time of 58.8 seconds. Narrowly edging out teammate Nailah Jackson. Senior Alexis Lipnicky also ended her home career on a win in the javelin event with a toss of 132’ 8”. A throw more than 6’ farther than second place.

Senior Ashley Bailey brought her A game for her final home meet. Ashley had a pole vault jump of 13’ 2 ½”. A jump that broke a school record placed in 2004. Bailey has won the pole vault event a couple times this and is preparing for conferences this weekend.

Head Coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith praised Ashley Bailey on her success while at UD stating “I am so proud of Ashley. She just knows how to get the job done. The sky is the limit for this young lady and her performance is evidence to the work she puts in physically and mentally.”

Delaware’s track team reeled in an impressive total of 11 wins in their final home event. Bethany Clement won the hammer event with a 154’8” toss. Good enough for her season-high. Myrissa McFolling-Young won 2 events over the weekend. Winning the shot put and the discus throw events winning easily in both events.

Arianna Richards won the 200m event beating teammate Nailah Jackson by .33 seconds. A photo worthy finish. In the 800m event Jessica Harding won with a time almost 20 seconds faster than 2nd place at 2:16.17.

Tina Capparell and teammate Emily Paolucci finished first and second in the 1500m event. Capparell finished with a time of 4:45.18, a time of almost 5 seconds faster than Paolucci. Samantha Side finished first in the 3000m steeples with a 11:46.47. Her teammate Mandy Odom finished behind her in second place.

In the High Jump Kai Starnes pulled away with the victory with a jump of 4’ 11 ¾”. While in the long jump Whitney Bailey-Hicks came away with the victory with a jump of 15’ 5 ½”. Good enough to edge out 2nd place by half an inch.

For some members of the Track Team the CAA Championships in Elon, N.C. is this weekend. Hopefully the Blue Hens can keep their winning ways going into the weekend.
