Delaware’s track team went on an Easter egg hunt this weekend at Princeton and Morgan Statue University. Only the eggs they were hunting for were school records and personal bests.
Crunch time has started for CAA hopefuls, only two weeks away those who want to qualify will need to get their best times of the year. Delaware reeled in 11 top three finishes over the weekend.
Susanna Weir set a University of Delaware record for the 3000m Steeples. Weir ran a school record time of 10:49.34. Breaking a record set five years ago.
Head Coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith had high regards for the Sophomore “Susanna’s performance in the steeplechase did not come as a surprise, we knew the school record was achievable this Spring.”
Another one of Delaware’s standouts over the weekend was Halimah Roberson. Halimah leaped her way to the best triple jump of the year in the CAA with a jump of 40’ ½”.
The rest of the team was on their game as well. Freshman Ruby Mullen qualified in the triple jump for conferences over the weekend with a 38’ ¾” jump. While junior Dianna Dunn ran the fastest 3000m time of the weekend giving her the Blue Hens only win this weekend. Dunn’s time of 9:53.87 was good enough to qualify her for conferences.
Co-captain Carlyn McGrath ran the fourth best time in the spring for the 100m hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.49. While two athletes Olivia Duffy and Bethany Clement had personal bests in the Hammer throw.
Michaela Meyer ran the fourth best time in school history for the 1500m event. Finishing with a time of 4:29.55.
“All of our student-athletes have been doing consistently well. I am excited to see them peak at our conference championship next week.” Coach McFarlane-Smith said.
But before conferences, the Blue Hens will have the Penn Relays and the Delaware Open to dominate before handling conferences on May 3rd and 4th at Elon University.
“We look to take the same approach we have had all season long, which is, to be our best-selves” Coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith said on their approach heading into the seasons end.
