While many students were still on spring break, the Women’s Track and Field team was in Williamsburg breaking records. In the second straight year, the Blue Hens emerged champions of the Colonial Relays.
The weekend brought huge success to plenty of Delaware’s Track and Field team. Many of the team ran times good enough to qualify them for the ECAC’s. Reeling in 8 different times that qualified for conferences, while one performance broke a school record.
Last week’s CAA track athlete of the week Michaela Meyer broke another record in the relays. Michaela Meyer, Val Romero, Susanna Weir and Dianna Dunn broke the school record by over 30 seconds in the 4x1500m. Winning the event with a time of 18 minutes and 34 seconds.
Michaela Meyer, Nadia Khoury, Sydni Stovall and Alyssa Armor finished third in the 4×400 with a time that qualified for the ECAC’s. While the 4x100m team consisting of Andrienne Rose, Roshelle Leaks, Halima Scott and Isis Pinkney finished in second qualifying for the ECAC’s.
Myrissa McFolling Young finished first in the discus throw, with a distance of 152’ 11”. In the hammer event Olivia Duffy and Bethany Clement finished in the top 3. In the Javelin, Alexis Lipnicky finished 6th overall in the event.
In the steeples Roxanne Ramirez and Analise Kaminski ran the third and fourth best times in the CAA. Ramirez’s time was good enough to be the third best in school history.
Coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith praised the team stating, “They support and really give energy to each other and you can see it in their performances each week.”
The Track and Field will participate in the Salisbury Invitational in Ocean City, MD next weekend. They will try to build on their impressive last performance.
