PILLA RESEARCH GROUP
The Pilla Research Group at the University of Delaware’s Center for Composite Materials focuses on designing, manufacturing, and digitally engineering the next generation of sustainable polymer and composite systems through three core thrusts: Future Materials, Advanced Manufacturing, and AI/ML in Materials and Manufacturing Processes. Our team focuses on developing multifunctional, energy, and sustainable materials that are adaptive, energy-active, and 100% biobased.
Research Areas
Future Materials, Advanced Manufacturing, and AI-Driven Innovation
Our team focuses on creating 100% biobased and recyclable polymer systems, developing lightweight, hybrid automotive structures, and advancing AI-enabled inverse design for next-generation composites. We integrate sustainable materials design, high-rate and hybrid manufacturing, and AI/ML in materials and process optimization to enable intelligent, circular, and high-performance composite technologies.
