S.O.S. Services & Programs
24 Hour Crisis/Support
S.O.S. provides support and advocacy for survivors of all forms of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, sexual harassment & stalking, as well as survivors’ friends, roommates, significant others, family members, colleagues, and UD staff providing assistance. S.O.S. members are trained to be able to answer questions for survivors regarding reporting to UD or police, medical options, counseling options, financial & housing assistance, academic accommodations, etc. Advocates understand how these various services work and what to expect. S.O.S. volunteers can accompany survivors to seek these services, provide emotional support, advocate on the survivors’ behalf, and to be able to answer questions. Read more about What is Advocacy?
Ongoing Advocacy, Crisis Counseling & Support Groups
Professional Victim Advocates are available at Student Wellness & Health Promotion for those who are engaged in ongoing cases (at UD or in the criminal justice system), who would benefit from crisis counseling, who need advocacy beyond the crisis (academic accommodations, emergency housing or shelter, a Protection From Abuse Order at Family Court, etc.), or who need referral to other resources. To make an appointment online, go to the SW&HP page on Victim Advocacy and click on the link in the teal box. Choose “Victim Advocacy” as the appointment type. From there, all available appointments with either provider will be listed and you can schedule. Or call Student Wellness & Health Promotion during UD business hours at 302-831-3457. These professional staff also offer support groups for survivors of sexual assault and/or dating abuse. (In Spring 2018 & 2019 we offered combined support groups for both.) Groups run typically in the Spring semester. If you are interested in participating, contact Student Wellness at 302-831-3457 and ask to set up an appointment to speak with someone about the group you are interested in. You may also wish to check out the Center for Counseling & Student Development’s current groups.
Outreach Programs, Audience Support, Tables
S.O.S. provides educational prevention-based programs for the campus and are available to come to your residence hall, sorority or fraternity, class, student organization, or any other group. To read our program descriptions and fill out our program request form, check out our Program page. We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you make the request as far in advance of the program as possible, preferably 10-14 days. Publicity for the program is the responsibility of the requester unless it is a campus-wide program with multiple sponsors. We provide audience support at campus events where the content focuses on sexual misconduct and may be upsetting to audience members. We also can have a table with SOS information, resources & giveaway items at your event. To request a program, audience support, or a table, please complete our online Program Request Form with at least 10 days of advance notice and we will be in touch.
