Program Requirements and Check Sheets
The following requirements common to all Social Studies Education Programs.
All Social Studies Education students must meet the following requirements by February of their junior year in order to student teach in the Spring of your senior year.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 in your major content area
- A minimum GPA of 2.75 in all of your courses
- Passing scores on the CORE (formerly Praxis I) exam
- Successfully complete 5 of 10 Learning Portfolio entries
Applications are due in February of your junior year.
Student teaching takes place in the spring of your senior year

While all students in our program will be certified to teach Secondary Social Studies upon successful completion of the program as well as state accreditation, there are several avenues each student may take to reach this goal. Please be sure to utilize the program checklist throughout your years at the University of Delaware to ensure that you complete all the requirements and graduate on time.
