The Voice Lab in collaboration with the Speech Language Acquisition and Multilingualism (SLAM) Lab at the University of Delaware, are conducting an online study examining children’s self-awareness and perception of voice and voice problems!

Your child might be able to participate if:

  • They are between 3-6 years old

  • They are typically developing

  • They are monolingual English speakers

  • They have normal hearing

  • They have normal or corrected vision

What does the study involve?

  • You and your child will be asked to participate in a virtual appointment where your child will complete a few interactive tasks. We will show your child movies of cartoon characters who have funny voices, followed by some questions about the movies. We will use your child’s eye movements to then determine what children know about voice characteristics.

  • The entire meeting should take no more than 60 minutes to complete, and virtual appointments can be scheduled whenever is convenient for you and your family.

  • 5-6-year-old children will participate in two additional online meetings in which they will be trained in a new vocal skill using games and other fun activities. The first meeting should take no more than 45 minutes and the second meeting – 30 minutes max.
