Course Description

FASH 330 (Merchandise Planning) is a required course for all fashion merchandising and Management (FMM) majors. In the FMM curriculum, FASH330 plays a critical role in providing students with essential fashion merchandising knowledge, including retail finance, pricing strategy, inventory management, and merchandising planning.

FASH330 is also one of the few FASH courses that focus on improving students’ computer application skills (such as Excel) in the fashion merchandising area. Additionally, FASH330 specifically supports the FASH department’s learning goal of “Merchandise and Assortment Planning: Demonstrate an ability to apply qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to illustrate merchandising, planning, and buying” for the FMM major.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the key merchandise planning process;

  • Develop merchandise calendar, pricing strategy and assortment plan for fashion & staple goods;
  • Know the career path and job responsibilities as a merchandiser or buyer;
