    Faculty Position at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level
    The School of Urban and Regional Planning anticipates one or two openings for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant or associate professor level beginning in August, 2014. The successful candidate(s) must, at a minimum, have a Ph.D. in planning or a related discipline, demonstrate substantial potential for scholarly research, publication, and extramural funding, and be able to teach courses in GIS as well as courses in transportation or economic development. Scholarly interest in equity and social issues is also welcome.

    For 50 years, The University of Iowa has been offering high quality graduate education in urban and regional planning. Located in a vibrant urban and academic setting, the University of Iowa School of Urban and Regional Planning offers a fully accredited Master’s degree in Urban & and Regional Planning, with areas of concentration in economic development, geographic information systems, housing and community development, land use and environmental planning, and transportation. Its nine faculty members are committed scholars and teachers who are also engaged in the community. The School’s Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities is a recognized University-wide, state-wide, and nation-wide leader in student-centered community engagement. Depending on the expertise and interests of the successful candidate, affiliation with other of the University’s outstanding departments, research centers and institutes is also possible.
    Initial review of applications will begin on January 21 for the August 2014 appointment. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled. The applicant should reply with a vita, a letter of application, a list of three references, and at least one publication or other sample of writing. The letter of application should describe the kinds of courses the candidate would be prepared to teach, as well as the candidate’s research interests.
