Meet the Team

Dr. Alyssa M. Lanzi, CCC-SLP 

Lead FEMAT Investigator  

Dr. Lanzi is an academic speech-language pathologist and Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Delaware. She conducts research in two main areas. First, she is a clinical trial interventionist, who focuses on investigating behavioral treatments of cognitive function in adults at risk for ADRD. Second, she is interested in improving treatment-driven assessment, particularly with assessments of compensation, assessments of health outcomes, and assessments of discourse. She developed the FEMAT as part of her dissertation work at the University of South Florida.

Dr. Robert Dedrick

Lead FEMAT Psychometrician  

Dr. Dedrick is Professor and Program Coordinator for the Educational Measurement and Research Program at the University of South Florida. His research interests include the use of structural equation modeling to examine measurement quality of psychological instruments, the analysis of change using multilevel modeling, and mentoring in doctoral education.

Dr. Michelle Bourgeois, CCC-SLP

FEMAT Expert Panelist and Consultant 

Dr. Michelle Bourgeois oversaw the initial development work for the FEMAT. She is an ASHA Fellow and recently retired from her role as PhD Program Director and Professor in the Department of Communication of Sciences and Disorders at the University of South Florida. As a clinical researcher, Dr. Bourgeois has published numerous research articles, training manuals and CDs, and books focused on dementia care. She was the recipient of the 2007 Barry Reisberg Award for Non- Pharmacologic Research, Theory, and Clinical Practice and an Erskine Fellowship at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

Dr. Matthew L. Cohen

Lead FEMAT Neuropsychologist 

Dr. Cohen is a clinical neuropsychologist, which means that he is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the assessment of cognition, emotion, and behavior, particularly in the context of neurological conditions. Dr. Cohen conducts research in two areas. First, the assessment of cognitive function in adults, particularly cognitive functions that support communication. Second, Dr. Cohen is interested in the assessment of health outcomes that are subjective and personal to the patient (like quality of life). Dr. Cohen specializes in the creation and modification of health questionnaires (also called patient-reported outcomes measures) to benefit adults with cognitive and language disorders.

Anna Saylor, M.S., CCC-SLP

Doctoral Student 

Anna is a speech-language pathologist and doctoral student in the Resilient Cognitive Aging Lab at the University of Delaware. Anna was the lead research speech-language pathologist for the development of Version 2.0 of the FEMAT and is now hoping to lead the next stages of validation. Currently, she is interested in pursuing research related to functional assessment and treatment outcomes for people with cognitive communication disorders and their caregivers.

 Faith Stagge, M.A., CCC-SLP

Doctoral Student 

Faith is a speech-language pathologist and doctoral student in the Resilient Cognitive Aging Lab at the University of Delaware. Faith is working to support the validation of  Version 2.0 of the FEMAT and is hoping to lead efforts to expand the FEMAT’s validation with other clinical populations.    Her current research interests concern functional assessment and treatment of those with cognitive communication disorders.
