Robot Design and Manufacturing

With state of the art manufacturing capabilities including 3D printing, laser cutting and CNC machining the robotics and control laboratory is reminiscent of machine shops and maker spaces. Here robots are not simply tested, but actually built from scratch – designed to embody the research they are used to experimentally validate.

Miniature robots like “Stagbot” pictured above use rimless wheels that allow for leg-like ground contact for navigating uneven terrain. These small robots although quite capable in outdoor environments are effected by the uncertainty in the terrain, making navigation challenging.
