About the Partnership

The Partnership for Public Education (PPE) is a University-wide initiative supported by the Community Engagement Initiative, the College of Education and Human Development and the College of Arts and Sciences to develop and foster collaborative education based partnerships and improve public education in Delaware.  PPE is identified as a key priority in the Civic Action Plan, UD’s strategic vision for strengthening community engagement.

Vision

The Partnership for Public Education (PPE) is inspired by a vision of equity, excellence, and distinction for Delaware’s public education system in service of its students, families, and communities, achieved through partnerships among UD and Delaware’s greater public education stakeholders. To this end, we aspire to build and institutionalize collaborative and trusting relationships among the Delaware education community, to advance the role of research in policy, transform practice, and build our collective capacity to address challenges and leverage opportunities towards the equitable and systemic improvement of public education in Delaware.

Mission

The mission of PPE is to bring together members of the University of Delaware and the broader Delaware educational community—including educators, families, and community leaders —to identify shared needs and opportunities and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge.  PPE will mobilize the University’s research, professional learning, policy and advocacy, and student resources to address critical issues facing schools and foster sustainable partnership work.  To improve the quality and availability of education for all students PPE will prioritize our most underserved communities and seek to improve educational opportunities and outcomes from early childhood through post-secondary access.

Guiding Principles

The work of the Partnership for Public Education is guided by a strong set of principles that are upheld in all of our goals and activities, and for which we hold ourselves accountable.  These include:

  • All work will support the goal of strengthening Delaware’s P-12 education system in order to meet the needs of all students and to address systemic inequities in opportunities and outcomes.  This is founded on the belief that ALL students deserve/must be afforded opportunities for a high-quality education that prepares them for college, career, and civic life.
  • Our work will promote the generation and use of research in education policy and practice in ways that advance equity and which are relevant and useful for system improvement.
  • Collaborations between the P12 and higher education communities are essential to advancing the interests, mission, and goals of both, and so our work will be mutually beneficial to all partners.
  • All collaboration is anchored in a deep respect for the needs, interests, and experiential knowledge of all partners and the Partnership will provide a platform for all voices to be heard.
