Ioannis Poulakakis

Associate Professor

Dr. Ioannis Poulakakis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Delaware (UD).  Before joining UD, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. His research interests lie in the broad area of dynamic robot autonomy with emphasis in the analysis and synthesis of locomotion control and planning methods for dynamic legged robots. He is also interested in networked decision making with application to mobile sensor networks for nuclear detection.

Dr. Poulakakis received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, a M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S.A., in 2008 and 2007, respectively, and a M.Eng. degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in 2002. He also holds a M.S. in Robotics and Automation and a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Athens, Greece, obtained in 2000 and 1999, respectively.

Dr. Poulakakis is currently serving on the Editorial Board of The International Journal of Robotics Research since 2020 and of Frontiers in Robotics & AI since 2021 as an Associate Editor. He was a recipient of the NSF CAREER Award in 2014 and he is a Senior Member of the IEEE.
