Studies in Conservation calls for submissions for a special issue on the topic of ‘bibliotoxicology,’ the study, analysis, and management of potentially toxic materials in library and archives collections. This issue is open to articles on any aspect of bibliotoxicology, with a particular emphasis on interdisciplinary content. Article types may include research articles, case studies, technical notes, and literature reviews. Manuscripts must be original works and will undergo the peer review process.
Areas of interest include but are not limited to:
- Analytical techniques for identifying arsenic, heavy metals, or pesticides in library collection materials
- Case study of a toxic material identification and/or mitigation project in the library and archives environment
- Analysis and/or historical research on the use of toxic materials in library and archives materials, whether as an inherent component or a later treatment such as a pesticide
- Risk assessments for potentially toxic library and archives collections
- Management strategies for safer storage, handling, and/or use of potentially toxic collection materials in the library and archives environment
Accepted papers will be published online as soon as the proofs are finalized. When all papers have been finalized, they will appear together in a 2025 print issue.
