Economic Importance
Cixius are not reported to be pests, although there is a possibility that they vector phytoplasmas.
Known host plants
Nymphs of cixiids are subterranean, feeding on roots and possibly fungi. The significance of adult host records is unclear. Many cixiids are presumed to be polyphagous (as adults), most often on woody plants.

Collecting
Cixus can be collected by beating vegetation (esp. woody vegetation), at lights, or in various kinds of passive traps (e.g., Malaise traps). Cixius and other Cixiidae may also be attracted to traps intended for beetles (Lindgren funnel traps).
Molecular resources
As of this writing, there are three species of Cixius on Barcode of Life (Cixius nervosus, C. pini, C. praecox), and data for 4 species on Genbank (Cixius similis, C. nervosus, C. wagneri, C. pallipes) in addition to ‘Cixius sp.’
