Course Design Requirements

While you can choose whatever texts and themes you wish for ENGL 110, it is still a writing course; that is, the content students learn should predominantly be about how people compose their own texts and read, interpret, and respond to others’.

Requirements:

  • Students will write at least 3000 words and receive extensive feedback from instructors and other students throughout the semester.

  • At least one major project will include a scaffolded research process that cites or acknowledges multiple sources.

  • Students will compose at least one multimodal or digital text.
    • Multimodal texts take advantage of modes of communication in addition to or in place of alphanumeric texts, such as images, graphics, animation, sounds, or video. Examples include, but are not limited to, podcasts, audio stories, infographics, videos, graphic essays, TEDTalks, mash-ups, and vlogs.
    • Digital texts incorporate multiple (or different) media that are intended to be read/used/interacted with online. Examples include, but are not limited to, digital essays, websites, social media, and blogs.
    • Other types of projects are encouraged; please consult administrators when drafting assignments.
