Maryam Vaziri-Pashkam, MD, PhD

Principal Investigator

Maryam is a cognitive neuroscientist, interested in the intersection of visual cognition and action. She has an M.D. from Tehran Medical University and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Harvard University. After her PhD she worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and subsequently as a research fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health. She is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Delaware and the PI of the MVP lab. Maryam likes to spend some of her non-science time singing in persian traditional style and making persian bread.

Niloufar Faridani

Niloufar Faridani

Research Assistant

Niloufar is an aspiring neuroscientist from the University of Tehran with a background in electrical engineering (telecommunication systems). She has contributed to multiple research projects, including brain vessel segmentation, autism detection through eye tracking, and speech emotion recognition using deep learning methods. Currently, she works as a research assistant in the MVP lab, focusing on motion tracking. In her spare time, Niloufar enjoys crocheting and staying active through Pilates.

Amirali Soltani Tehrani

Amirali Soltani Tehrani

Graduate Student

Amirali is a brain-enthusiast student, interested in how brain works. He got his MSc and BSc from University of Tehran in Electrical Engineering while spending much time on multiple Neuroscience projects. He is currently pursuing his PhD in INP at the University of Delaware. He is working on the grasping project at MVP Lab. He enjoys listening to music, playing videogames, and learning.

Sina Mansouri

Sina Mansouri

Research Assistant

Sina is a research assistant in the MVP Lab, working under the supervision of Dr. Vaziri on EEG signal processing. His expertise lies in computer vision and his work focuses on applying AI and machine learning to medical and clinical datasets, including EEG signals and medical images. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from K. N. Toosi University of Technology. Sina’s research involves developing AI models for brain and neurological disorders, including autism, MS, and ADHD. He enjoys playing traditional Iranian instruments.

Shifa Maqsood

Shifa Maqsood

Research Assistant

Shifa is a Data Science and Behavior fellow at University of Delaware. She recently graduated from Brooklyn College with departmental honors in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She worked with Dr Crump on her honors thesis on self reference effect in memory literature and presented her findings at the Tow Mentoring Conference. She is currently a research assistant at MVP lab working on biological motion experiments. She likes to cook new recipes and read in her free time.

Benjamin Scott

Benjamin Scott

Research Assistant

Benjamin is an aspiring Video Game Designer from the University of Delaware, where he studies Game Studies and eSports. He is an intern at the MVP Lab and is currently working on a 3D project in Virtual Reality that lets you touch or grasp natural objects in a virtual space. This project demonstrates how people see the world during a natural interaction in the virtual environment. In his free time, Ben likes to play video games, watch movies, play basketball, and work on personal game projects. 

Anna Filina

Anna Filina

Research Assistant

Anna is an undergraduate student with a background in social work, having earned her first bachelor’s degree from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She is now pursuing a degree in Psychology at the University of Delaware, where her research interests focus on the intersection of social psychology and cognition. Currently, Anna is a research assistant in the MVP Lab, contributing to experiments on movement prediction and deception. Outside of her research, Anna enjoys oil painting and crocheting.
