FAQ for Parents
What are your hours?
We are generally open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. However, we schedule appointments outside of these hours as needed to accommodate the schedules of busy families in our projects.
Whom can I contact for more information?
For more information, please feel free to call us at (302) 831-8666 or email the laboratory coordinator
Where do visits take place?
We are very family friendly and flexible not only in scheduling visit times but also in scheduling visit locations. For most projects you can choose whether you would like us to come to your home or child care, whether you would like to come to us at the university, or whether you would like to meet at another preferred location.
How long is a visit?
Visits for most projects generally last 30 to 60 minutes, including breaks for young ones to rest, regroup, eat, or freshen a diaper as needed.
Can my other children be with me?
Absolutely! All are welcome, including children, other relatives, friends, even pets! You should not need to change your typical routine to accommodate our visitors.
What can I expect from a typical visit?
Visits for most projects generally involve 1-2 people arriving at your home at a time that is convenient for you. We bring clean “equipment” (aka toys) and our video equipment. We generally want to see how children play and problem-solve with a variety of toys and tasks. We have a team that is very accustomed to keeping kids of all ages happy and entertained. Kids have not been shy about letting us know what makes them happy and what does not – and we are quick learners! Our visits are all about movement and play.
Who makes sure that your studies are ethical and safe?
All of our studies have been approved by the University of Delaware’s Institutional Review Board. This University-wide panel evaluates proposed studies involving human participants at least once a year. If you wish to read more about this panel, please visit the Institutional Review Board’s website.
