What’s Happening in the VFTG, Week of 10/6/2025

A big thank you to all on board this morning.  We had a very busy day planned, and you never disappoint.  It was so amazing to watch us all come together for the greater garden.

Our tasks included weeding, bed cleaning, pruning, trimming, harvesting, watering, fertilizing where necessary, and assessing for pests and pest damage. Lots of biomass was chopped and added to the compost bins.

We pulled half of the Centercut squash wall after harvesting the ripe fruit.  The Super Sweet cherry tomato trellis was harvested and dismantled. The teamwork that went into making these large jobs a success was like no other.

We planted seeds for Mache and Arugula in the Northwest raised bed. We also planted Garlic (Music hard neck, Silver White, and California Early soft neck) in the long bed.

The Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, Pak Choi, Collard greens, and Kale seedlings are doing well. Row covers are in place.

We are still harvesting Centercut squash, Sweet Success cucumbers, Peppers(Shishito and Sweet green) and Purple Top White Globe Turnips. We completely harvested Tomatoes (Super Sweet Cherry, Mortgage Lifter, Harvest Moon) and Casper White eggplant. All produce was donated to The Little Sisters of the Poor.

We continue to host OCI, our enthusiastic gardening volunteers.

Can’t wait to meet in the garden again.
