What’s Happening in the VFTG, Week of 9/29/2025

This morning was brisk, overcast, cool and comfortable.  We had a great turnout of master gardeners. The garden looks wonderful and there is still a lot of production.

Our weekly tasks include weeding, bed cleaning, pruning, trimming, harvesting, watering, and pest management. All biomass is added to the compost bins.

We are still harvesting Centercut squash, Sweet Success cucumbers, Tomatoes (Super Sweet Cherry, Harvest Moon), Peppers (Shishito and Sweet green), Purple Top White Globe Turnips, Carrots, and Paw Paws. We completely harvested tomatoes (Black Brandywine, Aunt Lou’s). All produce was donated to The Little Sisters of the Poor.

The newly planted seedlings of Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, Pak Choi, and Collard greens are still seeing a little pest pressure but are holding on. Row covers are in place.

We planted Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce, and 3 varieties of Kale (Redbor, Tronchuda and Scarlet).

We continue to host OCI, our enthusiastic gardening volunteers.
