What’s Happening in the Vegetable Teaching Garden, Week of 6/17/2024

Welcome to the garden.

Today everything in the garden was watered thoroughly. With the dry weather and heat, master gardeners will thoroughly water the garden Thursday morning as well.

Harvesting this week: We have now harvested all our Brassicas-  Broccoli, Kale, Collards, and Cauliflower – just in time, as the cabbage worms are beginning to make inroads. Today’s harvest included two Clementine orange/yellow Cauliflowers, one Purple Moon purple Cauliflower, the rest of the Lacinato Kale, and the Flash Collards. We also harvested the remaining Turnips (Purple Top White Globe) and some carrots (Touchon), a very dependable French heirloom variety. Finally, we harvested both blueberries and black raspberries.

Planting: We planted Bush Beans in the Self-Watering Raised Bed and the East tub self-watering bed.  We planted Pole Beans along the Long Garden Trellis to fill in spaces between the already-established Pole Beans.

We also trimmed and weeded wherever it was needed.

Thanks to you all for making the VFTG a great place to garden and to visit.
