What’s Happening in the Vegetable Teaching Garden, Week of 6/10/2024

Welcome to the Garden.  Today, we maintained the garden by watering, weeding, and trimming.

We turned compost and distributed it at the lower (south) end of the Long Bed prior to planting the Swiss Chard (Bright Lights).

We harvested Carrots (Rainbow Mix and Touchon), Turnips (Purple Top White Globe), Kale (Lacinato type Black Magic), Collards (Flash), and Lettuce (Black Seeded Simpson). In the last week, we harvested a beautiful purple cauliflower (Purple Moon), a striking yellow/orange cauliflower (Clementine), and a Monty broccoli, as they were ready and couldn’t wait.

We saw a couple of Harlequin Bugs today, but insect predation is still very low.

Thank you all for joining us in the VFTG Garden. We hope your gardens are doing well also, and as always invite you to visit us at 461 Wyoming Road in Newark, behind the Cooperative Extension building and next to the trail.
