ACTIVE STUDIES
NAD Therapy for Improving Memory and Brain Blood Flow in Older Adults with MCI.
PI: Christopher Martens
This study will provide insight into whether a nutritional supplement, nicotinamide riboside (NR), improves memory and brain blood flow in older adults with low memory abilities. Overall, this project has the potential to identify a novel, safe and cost-effective strategy for decreasing age-related memory loss. Study sessions are completed in-person and online.

Aging Brain Structure and Memory in Response to Exercise.
PI: Curtis Johnson
As you get older. your brain undergoes several changes that may contribute to memory loss. We are interested in learning the effects of exercise training on your brain and memory function. Previous works has shown that exercise improves brain health in older adults. Overall, this project has the potential to identify how brain health is impacted by exercise in older adults. Study session are completed in-person. You will be asked to participate in a supervised exercised training program for 3 days a week for 12-weeks. You will also be asked to undergo an MRI scan.

Promoting Independence with Compensatory Cognitive Rehabilitation (Memory Strategy Workshop)
PI: Alyssa Lanzi
This study aims to evaluate the effects of a new behavioral treatment, the Structured External Memory Aid Treatment (SEMAT) that is designed to promote independent living skills by explicitly teaching the use of memory strategies and tools to compensate for cognitive weaknesses. We are recruiting older adults aged 60-90 years old with mild memory loss to participate in this trial that consists of multiple visits in a group format. All study session are completed online via Zoom.

DementiaBank: A Shared Database of Language and Cognitive Samples (Storytelling Study)
PI: Alyssa Lanzi
The primary purpose of this study is to build a shared web-based database of language and cognitive samples of older adults who depict a wide range of memory abilities. The database is anonymous (i.e., no personal information is included) and it will help researchers better understand the progression of language and thinking abilities in older adults. This study is a single session completed online via Zoom. This study helps us further determine if you are eligible for the memory strategy workshop which is compensated.

Motor Learning in Mild Cognitive Impairment
PI: Susanne Morton
The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of memory and thinking skills on the ability to learn new movement patterns. Participation would require either 3 or 5 visits to the Neuromotor Behavior Lab, located at the STAR Campus. During the visits, you would complete some thinking and memory tests, walk on a treadmill for up to 45 minutes while you learn a new walking pattern, and complete some surveys and clinical assessments of your walking and balance. You will be compensated for your time.
