Active Research (How you can help)

How do I participate?

1. Look on this page to see what studies are recruiting participants. Click the (+) to learn more and see if you might be a good fit. Each study will tell you how to get started.

2. Most studies involve at least one in-person meeting at The University of Delaware’s Health Science (STAR) Campus in Newark, DE. Local traffic is light. Parking is easy and readily available. Or we may be able to arrange transportation if you are unable to drive.

3. Most of our studies involve some combination of (a) answering questionnaire items about your health, (b) cognitive tasks like remembering pictures, and (c) participating in a one-on-one interview or small-group discussion related to health and health-related quality of life.

4. After you participate, most studies will offer some form of compensation for your time and energy, which you can choose to keep or donate to a worthy organization of your choice. If you want, you can tell your friends about your enjoyable experience donating your time to help others!

STUDIES

Study #1: Under construction!

Coming soon!

Study #2: Recruiting adults with memory loss and neurological conditions. Click the (+) to read more!

We are recruiting adults to participate in a research study – a study about communication abilities may be affected by memory loss and conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

We are trying to develop better clinical questionnaires that measure health and quality of life for people with these conditions.

The study involves about 2 hours of answering questions and doing paper-and-pencil tests of language and thinking skills. Ideally you will have a study partner – someone who knows you very well and can participate with you. You can come to the University of Delaware STAR Campus, or we can drive to meet with you in your home.

As a small way of saying ‘thanks’ for your time and energy, we will offer you a $25 gift card for participating.

If you’re interested in learning more, please enter your contact information *HERE*. After you enter your information, someone from the study team will be in touch with you shortly.

This project is generously funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Study #3: Recruiting adults with neurological conditions, family members, and clinicians. Click the (+) to read more!

We’re recruiting adults to participate in a research study – a study about people with neurological conditions that can affect their communication abilities. Conditions like stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. We’re trying to develop better questionnaires that measure health and quality of life for people with these conditions.

We need people with these neurological conditions to participate.

Separately, we are also recruiting people who are close with people that have these neurological conditions – spouses, parents, children, friends, etc.

The study involves up to 3 visits. The first visit involves answering questions and doing paper-and-pencil tests of language and thinking skills. You can come to the University of Delaware STAR Campus, or we can drive to meet with you in your home. The second and third visit will have to take place at the University of Delaware STAR campus. Those visits will involve participating in a group discussion about neurological symptoms – not your own symptoms, but rather discussing the symptoms of pretend people.

As a small way of saying ‘thanks’ for your time and energy, we will offer you $100 in gift cards for participating.

If you’re interested in learning more, please enter your contact information *HERE*. After you enter your information, someone from the study team will be in touch with you shortly.
