The purpose of the Beckman Scholars Program is to provide an in-depth, sustained undergraduate research experience in chemistry, biochemistry, biological, and medical sciences, or some interdisciplinary combination of these subjects, for exceptionally talented, full-time undergraduate students at accredited US four-year colleges and universities and young people who ultimately will become prominent leaders in their scientific and professional pursuits.

 

UD is eligible for one institutional Beckman Scholar Award, which must be used over a three-year period. Each Beckman Scholar Award may fund up to six Beckman Scholars (with funding for student and mentor stipends and travel funds and research supplies) extending over two summers and one academic year.

LGBTQ Health Disparities

Hey Future Docs!
Please join us for our next meeting which will focus on LGBTQ health disparities and how we can help to make a difference in that area. Dr. Karla Bell will be presenting on “Intersectional Theory and Health Disparities in the LGBTQ population”. The meeting will be on Tuesday, March 22nd at 6pm at Perkins in the Alumni lounge.

Dr. Bell is a Director of Clinical Education/Assistant Professor in the College of Health Sciences Physical Therapy Dept. at UD. She serves as Co-Chair for the LGBTQ Caucus on campus, co-advisor for oSTEM (the undergraduate out in STEM student organization), and represents CHS on the United Way Delaware State Task force for LGBTQ Health Equity. She has spoken nationally on the topic of inclusive health professional cultural competency education.
